Today we went to the fish market, this is a picture of me smelling my t-shirt as the fish smell was overpowering.
Everyone was so interested in the fish market, we had so much fun! Everyone kept on taking pictures.
This is a picture of dried up fish, the fish have been gutted and covered in salt, they lie them out here in the sun for a couple of days before they ship them up to the market where the Sri Lankans buy them.
This picture shows us how they gut the fish, first they chop their heads off then they cut them in half and take out their organs, they will then cover it in salt and leave them out to dry, it was really disgusting to watch and smelled very bad: it was an event I think everyone will never forget.
This picture shows us a man laying down the fish, which will stay there for a long time.
This picture shows us Mr. Pool with some police officers, everyone jumped up for joy as they thought he was getting carted away, but he was just having chit chat with them.
This is a picture of a crow on a bike? I would have never expected there to be so many crows here, I get really scared when they fly over my head as I think they are going to poo on me, as James almost got hit by it.
Dear mum and dad,
Hope Kenya is ok and Libby and Alex are having so much fun, don't have too many parties without me, can't wait to see you love you xxx
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteIt's really great to see all the photos and read about what you've been up to so far. Chelsea's description of the fish market was particularly vivid!
Will be checking the blog for news each day.
Missing you all already!
Take care,
Mrs Cumpsty x
Can't imagine Becky's reaction to the fish market as she can't stand the slightest smell of fish! Looks fun, glad you've had a good weekend.

Hi everyone
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing experience... love the fish market photos.
The Patrick/Rea family
Delighted to see that you won the football boys, I think last time the Sri Lankans thrashed the Rookwood team at cricket, so that makes it one all. Tom, you know your father would love some of that fish, he'll eat anything that smells, see if you can smuggle some home in your suitcase. Love the pix. Chloe is v. jealous.

Hi Emily, nice to eventually see the blog - we were getting a bit worried. Hope that the journey was not too painful. Also so nice to see that you have all so wisely invested in some interesting trousers (NICE!) and please remember that Mum and I really DON'T want any. Love Mum, Dad and Coco XXXX
ReplyDeleteHey, Georgia, hope you liked the fish market - don't bring any back as a souvenir. Xxxxx mum
ReplyDeleteHi Joseph. Now I've got the hang of the blog I can't stop. Just so you know you are always on my mind. Gone but not forgotten. The drying fish reminds me of blachan which is made from prawns. Granny used to do fried cabbage with it. Absolutely delicious but I can't help thinking it's not very hygienic!! All those crows and other wandering wildlife potentially getting too close to the drying fish. Yuk. Great blog and fabulous photos, especially the crow on the bike. Love you Darling more + most plus one and no returns. Mummy xxxx
