En route to Colombo...

Georgia describes the journey!
Being at Heathrow at 6:30 in the morning was a stressful experience, to say the least. Alannah was the only one who was frisked at Heathrow, which couldn't have been a pleasant experience. Joe had to empty out the entire contents of his bag, and the airport people couldn't even find what they were looking for. Needless to say, we were all pleased to finally board the plan for an 8 hour flight to Mumbai. The plane journey, despite being incredibly long, was actually not that bad. The airline food, which consisted of curry followed by more curry, was nice and there were plenty of movies and games to watch and play. I spent most of my flight watching the in-flight information, because I am just that boring.
Mumbai airport was incredibly nice, it was newly built and a welcome change of scenery from the inside of a plane cabin. The army people at the Mumbai border control were terrifying, and the women had to go into a segregated room with a curtain to be checked. I had a few problems at Mumbai border contol; I stupidly left my iPod in my pocket whilst going through the metal decector, which was incredibly hard to explain to the guard, and I also had scissors in my bag, which I had somehow managed to get away with at Heathrow.
We had a layover in Mumbai that lasted for about three hours, but we actually ended up staying longer because Ethan managed to lose his boarding pass, which he then had to go and find. We spent our time in Mumbai looking around some of the shops and trying not to fall asleep before boarding our next plane to Colombo.
The plane to Colombo was about 2 and a half hours long, and left at 2:30 in the morning. Most of us spent our time catching up on hours of sleep or attempting to watch the in-flight entertainment. Once we arrived at Colombo, the collection of our luggage and going through immigration was surprisingly fast, although we were all tired and groggy, so we were not in the mood for having our passports checked and hauling our luggage around. We then changed our money, which made us feel all like millionairs as we had many notes now in our pockets. When we finally stepped outside of the airport, I don't think many of us were prepared for the muggy, sticky heat that embraced us. However, we pushed on, getting onto our bus and heading to our hotel.
This (see picture above) is our hotel, which we arrived at before they were even serving breakfast, however I think most of us would've been too tired for that. We were then allocated our rooms , and most of us simply crashed out on our beds.
I'm going to go and have another nap now, in this sweltering heat, so goodbye for now!

  3. Message for Joe!!! Having finally worked out how to comment on the blog I can now say "Thank goodness" that you got to Sri Lanka in one piece. It must have been annoying to have your back pack turned out - it took soooo long to get right. Please pace it with the sweets!! Remember to clean your teeth . I was exhausted by the end of Friday. I can't imagine how tired you all were after such a long, and ultimately, hot journey. I hope the water bottles are working out. There's lots of mozzy stuff in your bag and the bite zapper. Is the solar powered thing working I wonder? Oh and the bands. I shall be v v v peeved if you get bitten!!! Missing you so much but the blogs are really helping. Thank you guys. Loving the commentary. Lots of love Joseph, more, most plus one and no returns. Mummy xxxxxxxx
