Our first day of work....

Tonight's blog entry comes from Nick and James.
Mrs Speed told us not to write, "This picture shows," , so instead - "This picture tells the reader" that we did some work! And it was hard! We used "wongs" or "woks" (Or as James likes to say 'bowls' because that is effectively what they are) to carry materials up and down the building, this took roughly four hours.
We carried the materials up and down via a chain of labour, more commonly known as the students of Rookwood!
A picture has been captured of the alpha of the group, the Speed! Not much is known about this being, but it is said to be in charge of the group and have a high understanding of the spoken language - English! She is seen helping her fellow workers.
Ellie here is wearing a grey shirt and orange gloves whilst being commanded by the Speed! Her commands are still unknown to science.
The now 16 year old Nick, seems to be at the head of the project, although much is still unknown about his day to day activities.
Looking dazed and bewildered is Freddie, what would seem to be the simpleton of the group is actually one of the few with any indication of intelligence, here you can see him carrying what could be part of his shelter, but is more likely to be part of a desk.
Joe here with his back to the camera...... But in all seriousness he is showing great tolerance and commitment to his work and fellow apes.
We have just been commanded by the Speed (2100hrs) that we have to say more about what we actually did. Which, well.... The pictures show but here it goes.
Here we have some of the lighter materials - notably plastic chairs - being carried down the chain, a nice relief to the heavier rubble.
Hand eye coordination is an integral part of multiple story chains
I believe this is Mr. Paus - This is a perfect example of our now enhanced hand eye coordination
Here we have a Nick, much enjoying our tea break, we were offered ginger tea by the ladies who work at the centre. It was delicious.
Having an in-depth conversation of how The English language has a role in Sri Lanka during our tea break - more like a hot and bothered conversation about general stuff - great, and very sweet, tea!
An update on Ethan's antics today.........
Ethan might have had a little accident with the ginger tea
He also had another accident when dropping his bottle three storeys down
And! He found his glasses much to his surprise in his bag!
The confusion on Freddie's face says what we were all feeling.
If you hadn't guessed already, yeah, we're shifting sand..........
Hard at work here, "don't pass that to me it's dirty"
Morale is high in the work place as seen by the smiles on Katie's and Chelsea's faces. But they won't be paid!
Mrs Clarke here calculating the best angle in which to pass the "Wong", a difficult task for the most intelligent amongst us.
The source of the material from which the building flourished.
Keep the comments coming as we very muched enjoyed reading them tonight.
Nick here, Thanks for commenting on my birthday, it was fun, we moved to our new location that day and got a huge cake from the teachers, it was delicious so thank you to them for the cake. Give my love to Matt and Maria and I miss you guys and hope to see you soon.
And thank you to Jo Hodgkins for my birthday wishes, Yas would like me to tell you that she misses you guys and looks forward to seeing you all soon. She did try some curry but does not intend in having anymore any time soon.
Right, James here now, now Nick's finished his essay - Hiya Mum, hiya Dad, still alive, enough food, err nice weather - no skewered cat or deep fried monkey, but I'm keeping hopes up. Have a nice time, great time out here! "Having a hoot!" There isn't much else to say here. Nevertheless, don't worry, many stories to tell you - Best wishes to you and the family - see you soon =]
Now especially to Mrs Cumpsty, would you say our writing is sufficient and adequate to your liking? As we have used vivid and expressive language? The marking isn't over yet, one last bit to do!

  1. Hi, guys, very entertaining and I would say worthy if being regarded as a piece of Controlled Self Assessment work - what say you, Mrs Speed? Now, where is Georgia? I can't see her in the photos and she has a proven track record of work avoidance along the lines of I was just going out/did I say my neck hurt/I thought you were OK doing it yourself and/you may as well carry on now you have started!

  2. Can your mum and I put an order in for a pair of those groovy trousers?

Glad all is well and quietly surprised you've managed to put in a solid day's work. Manual labour at that! Keep up the good work and keep the blogs comming.

    Love M & D

  3. How good to see you all hard at it! What exactly are you doing/finishing? It all looks a bit daunting. Have you played (and lost) cricket with the locals? Not missing anything here - torrential rain and chilly, Sholto being his usual self - enjoy the break Flora. Nice to see Flora presenting a desk to Mrs Clarke who seems to be wearing Hollis' hat. We all really enjoy reading the blog and seeing the photos - thank you. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  8. Great blog, enjoying the witty dialogue and the even more witty trousers - they are a joke aren't they or have we got the wrong end of the stick. Glad to see that Ethan is on form, writing this whilst watching Brazil lose to Germany - nooooooo.......

  9. A particularly entertaining post tonight. Grammar and punctuation rather 'insecure' in places, but a good read nonetheless. Great to see my 'old mucker' Mrs Speed feature so heavily and right in the thick of things, as expected. The work looks hard and hot. Respect!

  14. Really enjoying the blogs and pictures. They do tell a thousand words, those pictures. Am i the only one mentally playing Sam Cooke's Chain Gang song when reading this blog? It looks hot, dusty and exhausting, but very worthwhile. Now we have seen pictorial evidence of The Speed and Mrs Clark working hard, I give you all the challenge of getting both of them to start photo bombing your pictures. Selfies are too easy..... :-)
And I'm with Jo re the trousers. I am sure they are comfy and they fit in really well out there, but again a dare for you all: fancy a trip round the Chantry Centre in them?
Keep having fun, and as long as Ethan only spills liquids hopefully no one will be seriously harmed. ;-)

  18. Happy birthday James, hope you have a fantastic day - from the schedule it looks like a trip to Galle, a day off from all the grafting. Glad to see Dad's gloves have come in handy! Hope you've taken lots of photos, it looks an amazing place. Teddy says to tell you he won the sack race and came second in the obstacle race. Everyone sends their love and best wishes for brilliant day, all our love xxxxx

  19. Dear Freddie, we know you told the elderly humans not to comment in case they 'embarrassed' you (a wise call in our book), but knew you would want to know how we are (it's not all about you). We are well, sleeping in your bed, but not getting the attention we deserve, this family don't all treat us as well as you do. Glad you are having a good time, Martha hasn't been so lucky and has had food poisoning and an allergic reaction'. The Dachshunds
